Scientific Officer positions through the OCES/DGFS 2026 recruitment. This
prestigious program offers engineering graduates and science postgraduates the
chance to join the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) through two distinct
training schemes: the one-year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and
Science Postgraduates (OCES-2026) and the two-year DAE Graduate Fellowship

Eligibility
Criteria
- Qualifying
degrees and academic requirements for OCES/DGFS-2026 include
B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc.(Engineering)/5-year Integrated M.Tech. in eligible
engineering disciplines such as Civil, Chemical, Computer Science,
Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Metallurgical
Engineering with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks, as detailed in the
notification.
- Eligible
science disciplines include M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry,
Biosciences, Geology and Geophysics with specified subject combinations at
B.Sc. level and minimum 60% aggregate marks in qualifying degrees, as per
the detailed discipline-wise criteria.
- For
screening based on GATE Score, candidates must have valid GATE-2024,
GATE-2025 or GATE-2026 scores in the relevant GATE subjects/papers
corresponding to their discipline as mentioned in the advertisement.
- Only
regular educational degrees obtained through full-time/on-campus mode are
considered; degrees obtained through correspondence, distance
education/learning, by research or part-time modes are not eligible.
- Applicants
must satisfy discipline-specific inclusion and exclusion of degree titles
as listed, including ineligible specializations for each engineering and
science discipline.
- Candidates
graduating in the academic year 2025-26 and awaiting final results may
apply, subject to completion of all academic requirements for the qualifying
degree before 31 July 2026 and submission of final marksheet by 31
December 2026 (for OCES) or as per DGFS institute requirement.
- Applicants
must be citizens of India and, for those working in Central/State
Government units/PSUs/Aided Institutes, a No Objection Certificate from
their organization must be produced at the time of selection interview.
Salary/Stipend
- During
training, OCES Trainee Scientific Officers and DGFS fellows are paid a
stipend of ₹ 74,000/- per month.
- OCES
Trainee Scientific Officers receive a one-time book allowance of ₹
30,000/- during the training period.
- DGFS
fellows are reimbursed tuition fee for the M.Tech. programme and receive a
one-time contingency grant of ₹ 60,000/- per annum for two years, along
with funding up to ₹ 4,00,000 under the BRNS fast track project scheme for
project-related equipment/consumables.
- On
appointment, Scientific Officers are placed in Group-A post of Government
of India in Level 10 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix with basic pay of ₹ 56,100/-;
total monthly emoluments including dearness allowance, house rent
allowance and transport allowance are approximately ₹ 1,35,000/- for those
posted in Mumbai.
- Additional
allowances include leave travel concession by air (as per conditions),
children’s education allowance, annual professional update allowance and
Performance Related Incentive Scheme (PRIS) as per government norms, along
with a comprehensive Contributory Health Service Scheme for employees and
dependent family members.

- A
non-refundable Application Fee of ₹ 500/- is chargeable from male
applicants belonging to General and OBC categories.
- Women
candidates, transgender candidates, candidates belonging to SC/ST
category, Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA) and
physically challenged candidates are exempted from payment of Application
Fee.

Selection
Process
- Selection
to OCES/DGFS-2026 is a two-step process consisting of screening of
candidates followed by a Selection Interview.
- Screening
for Selection Interview is conducted through two alternative channels: an
online screening examination and GATE-score-based shortlisting.
- The
online screening examination is conducted in eight engineering OCES
disciplines (codes 21-28) and five science OCES disciplines (codes 41-43,
45 and 46) at more than fifty cities across India.
- Candidates
meeting eligibility criteria with valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025 or GATE-2026
scores in prescribed papers may be screened in for Selection Interview on
the basis of GATE scores.
- Cut-off
GATE scores for Screening Interview are decided after conclusion of the
online exam, and candidates are advised to maximize their chances by
availing both screening avenues.
- Selection
Interviews for shortlisted candidates in all disciplines except Geology
and Geophysics are conducted at BARC Training School, Mumbai; interviews
in Geology and Geophysics disciplines are held in Hyderabad.
- Outstation
applicants travelling for Selection Interview are eligible for
reimbursement of to-and-fro AC-III tier normal train fare by shortest
route or actual fare, whichever is less, upon submission of original
tickets.
- Final
selection is solely on the basis of performance in Selection Interview,
subject to medical fitness as determined by DAE doctors.
