SSC has notified 1748 tentative vacancies for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. These vacancies are spread across multiple Central Government organizations and posts, including JE (Civil), JE (Electrical), JE (Mechanical), JE (Electrical & Mechanical), JE (Telecom), and Scientific Assistant in IMD.

SSC JE Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for SSC JE 2026, candidates must meet the nationality, educational qualification, and age criteria prescribed for the post and organization they are applying to.

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (an eligibility certificate from the Government of India is required for these categories).

SSC JE Qualification

Essential educational qualifications differ by organization and post. Broadly:

  • JE (Civil): Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute; or a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering plus relevant work experience (requirement varies by organization).
  • JE (Electrical) / JE (Mechanical) / JE (Electrical & Mechanical): Degree or diploma in the relevant Electrical/Mechanical/Automobile engineering discipline from a recognized university/institute, with experience required in some organizations.
  • JE (Telecom): Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or Instrumentation.
  • Scientific Assistant (IMD): Bachelor's degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Computer Applications/Electronics/Electronics & Communication Engineering/Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering/Instrumentation/Information Technology/Telecommunication Engineering/Communication Engineering.

Because the exact qualification differs organization by organization (for example, CPWD requires a diploma while BRO accepts a degree or diploma-plus-experience), candidates should check the qualification listed against their target organization in the official notice before applying. Qualifications obtained through Open and Distance Learning (ODL)/online mode in restricted disciplines such as Engineering are not accepted unless specifically permitted under applicable UGC regulations or judicial orders.

SSC JE Application Fee

₹100/- (Rupees One Hundred only). Women candidates and candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), the Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) are exempted from payment of fee.

  • Fee can be paid only through online modes: BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card.
  • The fee payment deadline is 23.09.2026 (23:00 hours).
  • Fee once paid is not refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other examination.
  • Applications with unpaid or incomplete fee status are summarily rejected.

SSC JE Salary

Selected candidates will be appointed to Group 'B' posts in Pay Level-6 of the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale of ₹35,400 – ₹112,400. Actual in-hand salary will also include applicable allowances (such as DA, HRA and TA) as per the rules of the respective recruiting organization, which are not detailed in this notice.

 How to Apply for SSC JE Recruitment 2026

1.    Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the SSC website (ssc.gov.in). An OTR already generated on the old website (ssc.nic.in) is not valid on the new site.

2.    Log in and fill the online application form for the JE Examination 2026, either via the SSC website or the "mySSC" mobile app.

3.    Upload photograph and signature, or opt for Aadhaar-based authentication, which exempts candidates from certain photo/signature format rejections.

4.    Select your organization, post, and relevant subject/stream as per your educational qualification - this choice cannot be changed later.

5.    Pay the application fee online (if applicable) using BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or a Visa/MasterCard/Maestro/RuPay debit card.

6.    Preview and submit the form, and save/print a copy for your records.

SSC JE Apply Online

The SSC JE apply online link is active on the official SSC website (ssc.gov.in) from 02.09.2026 to 22.09.2026. Candidates should complete their application well before the closing date, since SSC has stated it will not be responsible for candidates unable to submit due to heavy website traffic near the deadline.
